BRIEF ON PUBLIC POLICY ADVOCACY AND SOCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY (PPASA I) PROJECT FUNDED BY THE FRENCH GOVERNMENT

BACKGROUND

The Public Policy Advocacy And Social Accountability (PPASA I) Project is part of a global project called “Strengthening the Accountability of Ghana’s Central and Local Government” supported by the French Government as part of the  funding agreement  signed by Ghanaian and French Governments within the programme called “Solidarity Priority Fund (SPF)” for the period 2014-2017. The project focuses on the application of principles of respect for the rule of law, consensus building, transparency, citizen participation, gender equality, efficiency and public sector accountability. The Project objective is to strengthen the implementation of accountability mechanisms of Ghanaian Government.

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the project are;

  • To strengthen vertical and horizontal accountability between government and the citizenry
  • To enhance transparency and citizens’ access to reliable information for improved demand–side accountability.
  • To engage citizens and CSOs in local-level policy formulation and implementation processes
  • To build citizens’ capacity to hold duty bearers accountable in the implementation of public policies for service delivery

BENEFICIARIES

The beneficiaries of the project are;

  • Suhum Municipal District Assembly Functionaries l (i.e. assembly members, technocrats, Unit Committee Members etc )
  • Civil Society Organizations, Non-Governmental Organizations,
  • Citizens i.e. economic grouping, Faith Based Organizations, opinion leaders, traditional authorities, women groups, Traditional Authorities,
