Women Manifesto Coalition (WMC)

The Women’s Manifesto Coalition (WMC) in Ghana is a coalition of civil society organizations, women’s groups, and activists committed to advocating for women’s rights and gender equality. Formed in 2004, the WMC focuses on addressing issues related to women’s political participation, economic empowerment, health, education, and social justice. The coalition aims to influence policy and legislation to improve the status of women and ensure their full participation in all aspects of national development.

The key document guiding the WMC’s activities is the Women’s Manifesto for Ghana, which outlines the challenges faced by women in Ghana and provides a comprehensive framework for action to address these issues. The manifesto calls for the implementation of policies and programs that promote gender equality and protect women’s rights.

The WMC engages in various activities, including:

  • Advocacy and lobbying for gender-sensitive policies and legislation.
  • Raising public awareness about gender issues.
  • Building the capacity of women to participate in governance and decision-making processes.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the implementation of gender-related policies and programs.

By working together, the coalition members aim to create a more inclusive and equitable society where women’s rights are respected and upheld.
