    KUMBUNGU

    PROFILE 
    Kumbungu District was carved out of the then Tolon/Kumbungu District with L. I. 2062 in 2011 with Kumbungu as its capital. The Kumbungu district is typically an agrarian economy. It is therefore not surprising that Agriculture, including forestry and fishing, constitutes the largest industry employing 87.2 percent of the workforce.

    The district houses the only water treatment plant in the northern region that supplies potable drinking water to the whole of the regional capital, including Savelugu Municipal, Sagnarigu and Tolon districts. Other tourist attraction in the district include; Bontanga irrigation dam, Traditional Artifacts at Logshegu and The Night Market at Gbullung. Education is an important aspect of societal development. Ninety-three percent of the employed males are in agriculture, including forestry and fishing, two percent for manufacturing and two percent for wholesale and retail; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycle
