    PROFILE
    The Tema Metropolitan Assembly, (TMA) was created from the erstwhile Tema Municipal Assembly in 2007 with the promulgation of Legislative Instrument (LI) 1929. In 2012, the Kpone-Katamanso Sub-Metropolitan District Council was carved out of the Assembly to establish the Kpone-Katamanso District Assembly which also resulted in the promulgation of (LI) 2033 for TMA with Community one as its capital.

    It shares boundaries North-East with the Kpone-Katamanso Municipal, Adenta and Ashaiman Municipalities to the West, South-West by the Newly created Tema West Municipal Assembly and the South by the Gulf of Guinea.

    The current assembly membership is 34 and has one Sub-Metro Tema East Sub-Metro and in the process of creating Tema Central Sub-Metro.

    A Chief Executive

    The local economy of Tema Metropolis is made up of Agriculture, Industry and Commerce/Services. The fishing sector plays a key role in the Metropolitan economy. The Metropolis host one of Ghana’s fishing harbor as well as one landing beach. Cassava fish, herrings and mackerel are some of the fish species captured by fishermen. Equally, there are a number of fish processing companies in the metropolis which gives value to the industry. 


    The Metropolis serves as the industrial hub of Ghana. There are over 500 industries (both heavy and light) in the Metropolis. Among the major manufacturing industries in the Tema Metropolis are those that produce chemicals, clothing, consumer electronics, electrical equipment, furniture, machinery, refined petroleum products, steel and tools. 

    The service sector in the metropolis covers a wide range of tertiary activities. These include hairdressing, driving, selling and petty trading; tailoring and dressmaking.
