    SHAI-OSUDOKU

    DISTRICT PROFILE
    The Shai-Osudoku District was created by L I 2137 and is situated in the southeastern part of Ghana in the Greater Accra Region. It occupies a total land area of about 968.361 square kilometers. The District was demarcated in June 2012 and carved out of the Dangme West District. The District Capital is Dodowa.

    The District is located in the South-Eastern part of Ghana (proximity to Accra) in the Greater Accra Region.  The District share boundaries with seven other districts which North Tongu District, Yilo and Manya Kribo Districts, Akuapim North Municipal, Kpone Katamanso Municipal, Ningo-Prampram District and Ada West District. 

    Agriculture is the mainstay of the of the District’s economy employing 58.6% of the working population. Crop farming, fish farming and livestock rearing is prominent in the District. The major crops produced in the District are mango, rice and cassava. The types of animals reared in the District include cattle, goats and pigs. These animals are produced on both subsistence and commercial basis. Some women in the District also engage in petty trading. A section of the youth in the district also engage in stone quarrying.

    The Shai-Osudoku District is endowed with diverse tourism potentials. Ghana as a whole.  Some of the prominent tourist sites in the District are, the Proverbial and Historical Dodowa Forest, Chenku Waterfall, Shai Hills Resource Reserve, Guggisberg Memorial Hall, the Frederikssted Plantation, the Tokpo Baobab Forest, Mount Yongua of Asutsuare and the Osuyom Mountains and Ancestral home.
