DISTRICT PROFILE
Obuasi Municipal Assembly was carved out of the erstwhile Adansi West District Assembly on the strength of Executive Instruments (E. I.) of 15th December, 2003 and Legislative Instrument L. I. 1795 of 17th March, 2007.

Location and Size
The Municipality is located between latitude 5.35N and 5.65N and longitude 6.35N and 6.90N. It covers a land area of 162.4sqkm.  There are 53 communities in the Municipality which shares 30 electoral areas.
The Municipality is bounded  on  the  south  by  Upper  Denkyira  District  of  the  Central  Region,  East  by Adansi South, West by Amansie Central, and North by Adansi North.   Obuasi is the Administrative Capital where the famous and rich Obuasi Gold Mine, now Anglo Gold Ashanti is located.

Population
The population of the Municipality according to the 2010 Population and Housing Census stands at 168,641 with 81,015 males 87,626 females.
