DISTRICT PROFILE
The Kwabre East Municipal was historically part of Kwabre Sekyere District until it was carved out in 1988. It became Kwabre East District after Afigya Kwabre District was carved out of the Kwabre District in 2007. The Municipal was established by Legislative Instrument (L.I) 2265.  Its capital, Mamponteng, is approximately 14.5 kilometers from Kumasi.The  name  Kwabre  comes  from  the  Akan  word  ‘’  Kwae  a  abre’’  meaning  a  rich  and  thick forest. The Municipal  is  known  for  its  cultural  heritage  as  well  as  its  endowment  in  unique craftworks and natural  resources.  It is also described as an ultimate tourist destination in Ashanti Region. This has attracted most tourists to the Municipal.

LOCATION, SIZE AND POPULATION
Kwabre East Municipal  has a total land area of 123  square  kilometres  constituting about 0.51percent  of  the total  land  area  of  the  Ashanti  Region  (24,370.5  square  kilometres).  It  lies within  latitudes  6045’  and 6050’  North  and  longitudes  1030’  and  1035’  West.  The Municipal shares boundaries with Sekyere South District to the North, Kumasi Metropolis to the South, Ejisu Municipal to the East and Afigya Kwabre North District to the West.
