ASANTE AKIM CENTRAL

DISTRICT PROFILE
The  Asante  Akim  Central  Municipality was created by Legislative Instrument (L.I) 2056 and it has Konongo–Odumasi as its twin Capital Town. It was carved out of the then Asante Akim District Council in 1988 and was elevated to Municipality status by L.I 1907.

LOCATION AND SIZE
The Municipality is located in the eastern part of the Ashanti Region.  It shares boundaries with Asante Akim North District to the North, Ejisu-Juaben and Sekyere East at the West, Asante Akim South at the East and South. The South – Western corner of the Municipality is bordered by the Bosome – Freho District.  The land size of the Municipality is 300 square kilometres (km2). It lies between latitude 60 30’ North and 70 30’ North and longitude 00 15’ West and 10 20’ West. It covers a land area of 1,160 sq. The population of the district according to the 2010 Population and Housing Census stands at 71,508 with 33,942 males 37,566 females.
